Another book meme

This one is quite familiar – I did a variant some time ago: Grab your nearest book, go the 123rd page, find the fifth sentence and type that and the two sentences after it. The book is Joe Sacco’s graphic novel Palestine; I’m equating a text box with a sentence and assuming that the order is strictly top-to-bottom and left-to-right (it would be rather hard to do this with some of my other comics). Stuck like a Guinea Pig

As has posted elsewhere, the three of us (including the garklet) are taking part in a clinical study of the effects of maternal diet on allergies in infants. We had our first appointment today, which included allergy scratch tests for both of us. This is one of the main reasons (apart from the furtherance of Science) that I’m happy to take part in this study; I suffer from hayfever for about four months every year, and I was curious about which allergens I was sensitive to. Grass pollen showed up as I expected, leaving me with a larger welt than… Read More »Stuck like a Guinea Pig

Scenes of explicit interhorse

One for the Potterites amongst us (brought to my attention by an equally incredulous ): Naked stage role for Potter star Daniel Radcliffe Radcliffe has starred in four Potter films and is now making a fifth Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe is to appear on the London stage next year, playing a stable boy who has an erotic relationship with his horses. Richard Griffiths will co-star in the revival of Peter Shaffer’s 1973 play Equus, to open in the capital in March. Radcliffe and Griffiths are currently shooting the fifth Harry Potter film. The role will require Radcliffe, 17, to… Read More »Scenes of explicit interhorse

Len Lye

While I’m not currently a member of a film society, I don’t regret the 10 years that I spent with film societies and the BFFS. For one, I’ve ended up married to as a direct result, but more importantly, I’ve been introduced to a wide range of cinema and filmmakers that I just wouldn’t otherwise have been exposed to (and I’m fairly certain that would probably have put those in the same order). One such filmmaker is Len Lye, a New Zealander who worked in the GPO (General Post Office) Film Unit in the years before WWII. During this time,… Read More »Len Lye

Not something you see everyday

and I live less than a kilometre and a half from Southampton Airport, and about half a kilometre from the landing and takeoff flight path, so we’re used to a lot of air traffic. What we weren’t expecting to see was a rather low flyover by a B-1B Lancer with its wings swept full forward. Rather louder than we’re used to, too. I guess that it’s Farnborough this weekend, then?

Lions AND tigers AND bears, oh my!

Well, Doctor Who was a bit of a corker. Now we need to work out how we’re going to be able to watch next week’s two-parter. In other news, for us the warworld cup is over. A nation yawns.

The Garklet’s Progress

Another scan this morning at the Princess Anne with , and all’s well. Also, haven’t we grown? Vertebrae! A beautifully visible heart! Eyes! Cerebral hemispheres! A stomach and a bladder! For those that also want to go gaga over the scans, they’re on gark.net.

Learning to Drive

Had my theory test this morning, which I passed without any problems. Bit of a relief, since I started learning to drive in 1990 (with a hiatus of about thirteen years in the middle), long enough ago that it was before they introduced the theory test, reverse parking, parallel parking, and so on. I suppose I should be grateful that I’ve made progress before the test includes requirements relating to flying cars (the vehicle that’s always in your future). A little flap this morning, since I couldn’t find my paper counterpart (last seen before we moved house), but it turns… Read More »Learning to Drive
